APPG hosts a drop-in event to celebrate World Oceans Day

Yesterday, the APPG for the Ocean was delighted to host a drop-in event ahead of World Oceans Day, celebrating the importance of our ocean and raising awareness of the action needed to protect it here in the UK.

The event explored the key challenges facing our ocean and the practical policy priorities needed to address them, including strengthening Marine Protected Areas, supporting sustainable fisheries, tackling ocean pollution, advancing marine renewable energy, and unlocking the economic potential of blue carbon.

Parliamentarians heard from experts from the Blue Marine Foundation, Greenpeace, the Marine Conservation Society, Oceana, and Rewilding Britain, who shared their insights on the opportunities and challenges facing the UK's marine environment.
