APPG Welcomes New Secretaries of State

The APPG for the Ocean welcomes the appointments of the new Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Ed Miliband MP, and the new Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Dame Angela Eagle.

Healthy, thriving seas are vital to the UK's environment, economy, food security, climate resilience and coastal communities. Protecting and restoring the ocean also requires strong international cooperation. From tackling climate change and plastic pollution to safeguarding marine biodiversity, supporting the sustainable use of ocean resources, and working with the UK's Overseas Territories to protect some of the world's most valuable marine environments, the UK has an important role to play in driving ambitious global action.

We look forward to engaging with both Secretaries of State and their ministerial teams across the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to ensure that ocean health and the sustainable management of our seas remain a priority, while strengthening the UK's position as a global leader in ocean protection.
