APPG Chair raises question on Ocean Policy to Minister at International Development Committee meeting

Fantastic to see our APPG Chair, Sarah Champion MP, raise the important issue of siloed ocean policy ownership to the Minister for International Development at the recent International Development Committee meeting.

While it is great to hear that the Minister recognises this issue and that work is ongoing to identify problems with cross-departmental working, we must have a clear and strategic approach to cross-departmental ocean policy.

Based on the findings of our recent inquiry 'What Can Sustainable Ocean Policy Deliver for the UK?', we are recommending the Government commit to developing a UK and International Ocean Strategy.

We have the opportunity to create a long-term vision, one which recognises the roles of different departments, creates the safe guards that balance protection with opportunity, harnesses innovation and is backed by investment in marine science and research.
